The Questions – Lucy

  By TweedtoTokyo November 10, 2019 December 2, 2019 Lucy

Where are we going? Across land to Japan. Why are we doing this? Because it will be a good experience and some way to learn about the world rather than sitting in a classroom and getting bored. What are you most looking forward to? Experiencing other cultures. And Mongolia. And… Continue reading

The Questions – Magnus

  By TweedtoTokyo November 4, 2019 December 4, 2019 Magnus

Where are we going? Erm. Like five thousand million places. And Japan. Why are we doing this? I have no idea.  I think to see the Olympics. What are you most looking forward to? The football in the Olympics (editors note: this may not happen). Seeing different places. And least?… Continue reading

The Questions – Aurora

Where are we going? A million places. And Japan. Why are we doing this? Because it’s good for us and it will be exciting. We’ll be going to millions of countries and doing, you know, like fun things. And yak herding. Or something like that. What are you most… Continue reading

Where it all began

By TweedtoTokyo October 22, 2018 October 22, 2018 Harriet, Planning

What makes a family of six decide to give up their jobs, schools and friends for six months, tidy their house sufficiently that someone else can live in it (not looking forward to that bit) and go overland (no planes at all until after we’ve climbed Mount Fuji) to Japan?… Continue reading

Feeling a bit sad about it today to be honest, but trying to focus on the brilliant times we still had.

The dream may not have happened last year but we haven't given up altogether...

hi! Its Aurora :) I am going to explain the 3 phot hi! Its Aurora :) I am going to explain the 3 photos instead of giving you a full experience of the day. The first one!!! I made a instagram account for the baking I am doing for charity you can follow it if you like at @borders.charity.baking and you can still order at anytime by texting or calling us! (Preferably on that account now) but if not thats fine. The second!!! We went on a walk today it wasn't as long and bad as I thought it would be!! Some pictures of today's and yesterday's walks.

Yesterday we stuck to the French rule of not going further than a kilometre from our front door but still managed to find some new paths, fallen trees and views of the river.

And today we took a turn around a slightly different bit of the same river and took in Eildon, the Rhymer's Stone (Thomas the Rhymer was abducted as a second slave by the Queen of faerie, or something like that), the Trimontium roman fort site and the fabulous Leaderfoot viaduct. We have spared you photos of the modern version just behind us as we took the photographs.

Today's top find: an iron ring, proudly brought home by Magnus who (despite the fact that we didn't find it anywhere near the fort) is hoping it's Roman. I am dragging out what little memory I have of the treasure trove rules and am very much hoping it isn't.

Haggis!

(And yes, it really is sheep's heart, liver and lungs all chopped up with oatmeal and spices). And yes, it really, really is delicious. And yes, even the children eat it)

Oh, and if anyone's wondering, the yellow vegetable is what Harriet (English) would call a swede, Ben (Scot, and therefore on Burns' night probably right) would call a neep and Americans would, I think, call a rutabaga. Or maybe a turnip...

Scottish lockdown day 24ish A beautiful sunny and Scottish lockdown day 24ish

A beautiful sunny and icy walk up Black Hill today, with snow and wrap-around views at the top, and even an admission or two that we should do this walk again - high praise indeed.

Home for a relaxing afternoon including delicious and well-earned cinnamon buns.

Ben

Occasional flare ups, occasional good moments, too many screens and not enough exercise for all of us.
Lots of cake.
(Aurora still has spaces for customers who want home baking in return for charitable donations).
Beautiful day today though.
